The great taste of Peperami Salami is no accident- it is made to special authentic recipes in a country that knows all about making the perfect sausage- Germany! As you may expect from a classic sausage- Peperami is 100% pork salami. It is made with 13.8g of pork for every 10g of sausage- this is because the pork loses some weight from moisture loss during the natural drying process used to make classic salami and other classic dried meats. (Peperami is also pasteurised for food safety).

Peperami has an army of loyal fans who go as mad for its great taste as Peperami’s crazy, award-winning ambassador ‘The Animal’! Everyone agrees that when it comes to salami, Peperami is in a league of its own!
How it all started
The container carrying the sausages to the UK in 1982 was actually supposed to be full of pate! When the mistake was discovered the company tried the salami and fell in love with it! The company decided to launch the salami sausage under the name of Peperami… and it was an instant success!
People couldn’t get enough of the Peperami salami, and expressed a wish for other varieties and formats! Not wanting to disappoint, we launched Peperami ‘bunch of five’ packs in 1989, followed by Peperami Hot in 1992. Peperami Minis were introduced in 1995 and became an instant favourite for the lunchbox.
In 2003 Peperami Firestick was introduced, and in 2007 Peperami celebrates it's 25th birthday! To celebrate the range, Peperami has been given a birthday makeover - with fantastic new packaging and nutritional improvements, including: 30% fat and 30% saturated fat reduction in all Peperami minis, and 100% pork salami in all Peperami:
- 16% salt reduction in the whole Peperami range
- 10% fat and 10% saturated fat reduction in all 25g and 40g Peperami
- 30% fat and 30% saturated fat reduction in all Peperami Minis
- 100% pork salami in all Peperami
Advertising campaigns
Peperami TV advertising has always been phenomenally successful- the first brand TV ad was in 1987 with ‘Get your teeth into Peperami’, followed in 1989 with ‘Venus Fly Trap’.
The 'Animal' was launched in 1993, created by Unilever and the Peperami advertising agency Lowe Lintas. He is the hero of the ‘It’s a bit of an animal’ campaign, and in 2006 became a Fanimal; venting his animalistic energy at the referees in the World Cup! He is still causing havoc that brings smiles and warmth to snack lovers all over the country, and in 2007 can be seen proudly showing us “what he’s made of”, which is, of course, 100% pork salami!

Peperami minis contain 2% of the daily amount of calories, 4% of the daily fat intake, 6% of the daily saturated fat intake and 9% of the recommended salt intake for children aged 5-10 yrs.
